Aromatherapy with Bath Salts

What is Aromatherapy?

"Aromatherapy" can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.  It is an art and science which seeks to explore the physiological, psychological and spiritual realm of the individual's response to aromatic extracts as well as to observe and enhance the individual's innate healing process.  As a holistic medicine, Aromatherapy is both a preventative approach as well as an active treatment during acute and chronic stages of illness or disease.

As a treatment, it is usually combined with body-contact therapy, in the form of massage, or bathing in a salt water bath.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are pure, concentrated plant extracts obtained specifically for their fragrance and therapeutic value. The chemical composition of these oils is exceedingly complex - often consisting of tens or hundreds of constituent parts. It is now thought that all of these parts play a vital role in the effectiveness of essential oils and thus the chemical synthesis of these oils has proved remarkably tricky.

Examples of common essential oils include lavender oil, rose oil and peppermint oil.
